Matsushita et Toray Industries croient dur comme fer à l'avenir de l'écran plasma. Selon Reuters, ils envisagent déjà de construire une quatrième unité de production d'ici mars 2007, afin de répondre à la demande. Ce projet représenterait un investissement de 253 à 422 millions de dollars. La société commune en écrans plasma, dans laquelle Matsushita détient 75% du capital, construit actuellement une troisième usine qui devrait être opérationnelle au printemps prochain. Elle disposera d'une capacité de production annuelle de 960 000 écrans dès 2005. Selon Reuters, le marché des téléviseurs à écran plasma devrait passer de 400 000 unités en 2002 à 9,4 millions en 2006.

Sagem, qui est l'un des grands fournisseurs d'électronique pour les chars d'assaut, n'est pas indifférent au sort de Giat Industries, a déclaré hier Grégoire Olivier, président du directoire du groupe, dans le cadre d'une conférence organisée par Les Echos. Simplement, il attendra que les réductions d'effectifs engagées chez le fabricant de chars Leclerc soient réalisées. Par ailleurs, le p-dg de Sagem a révélé que le modèle de phototéléphone mobile lancé par le groupe en mai a déjà été vendu à 200 000 exemplaires en un mois.
Hynix va produire pour ON Semiconductor
Le Coréen Hynix vient de signer un accord pluriannuel avec ON Semiconductor pour la fourniture de services de production de circuits intégrés en technologie Cmos. " Cet accord renforce notre stratégie de développer nos services de fonderie ", s'est félicitée la direction du fabricant coréen de mémoires Drams. En fait, Hynix va fabriquer des circuits de gestion de puissance pour le compte de l'Américain. Le montant du contrat n'est pas chiffré, mais, selon l'agence Dow Jones, il porterait sur 100 millions de dollars sur deux ans. ON Semiconductor, qui en France est implanté à Toulouse et fait appel à l'usine locale de Motorola, son ancienne maison-mère, vient, par ailleurs, de revoir à la baisse ses prévisions trimestrielles. L'Américain, qui le 1er mai dernier prévoyait encore un CA stable par rapport aux 266,5 M$ du 1er trimestre, anticipe désormais une baisse d'activité de 3% à 5%. ON justifie cette révision par la faiblesse de la demande sur les marchés du sans fil et de l'automobile, couplée à une baisse des prix moyenne de 3% depuis fin mars.
Le Japon lance un programme de soutien aux mems
Le Meti, ministère japonais de l'économie, du commerce et de l'industrie, va lancer un programme de soutien à la recherche et développement de microsystèmes destiné à accroître la part de marché du Japon sur l'échiquier mondial des mems, annonce ce matin le Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Ce programme de trois ans sera doté d'un budget public de 5 milliards de yens (36 millions d'euros). Selon le quotidien nippon, le Meti prévoit que le marché mondial des mems devrait plus que doubler d'ici à 2006 pour atteindre alors 1200 milliards de yens (8,7 milliards d'euros). Estimant la part du Japon à près d'un tiers du marché des mems, le Meti compte amener le pays à contrôler la moitié du marché mondial des microsystèmes, grâce à une politique industrielle volontaire dans ce domaine.
3 milliards de pertes pour Solectron
Solectron vient de nommer un numéro 2, en la personne de Marc Onetto, 52 ans, précédemment vice-président de General Electric Europe. Responsable au niveau mondial de la production, des achats, de la qualité, de l'introduction de nouveaux produits, de l'informatique, de la logistique et de la réparation (bref de tout), il sera directement sous les ordres de Mike Cannon, p-dg de l'entreprise. Ils ne seront pas trop de deux pour redresser la société qui a perdu récemment sa place de premier sous-traitant mondial au profit de Flextronics. Le sous-traitant a en effet publié hier des résultats trimestriels pour le moins perfectibles. Solectron affiche en effet une perte nette de 3,1 milliards de dollars pour un chiffre d'affaires de 2,8 milliards. Certes, cette perte inclut 2,8 milliards d'éléments exceptionnels (amortissement de survaleurs, restructuration, etc.), mais elle contraint le sous-traitant à négocier avec ses banques pour non respect d'une clause financière concernant un emprunt de 450 M$. Au cours du dernier trimestre, Solectron a réalisé 15,5% de son chiffre d'affaires en Europe (un ratio à peu près constant). Au niveau mondial, les télécoms et produits réseaux représentent près de la moitié de son activité, contre 36% pour l'informatique. HP est premier client (13,2% de son CA du trimestre), devant Nortel (10,9%) et Cisco (10,8%). Pour le trimestre en cours, Solectron vise un chiffre d'affaires compris entre 2,6 et 3 milliards de dollars et une perte de 2 à 6 cents par action, hors éléments exceptionnels.
L'export américain en électronique a chuté de 26% depuis 2000
L'AeA, l'association américaine des entreprises d'électronique qui représente plus de 3000 sociétés, a publié hier un rapport pessimiste sur l'évolution de l'industrie électronique américaine. Selon l'AeA, en effet, les exportations américaines de produits high-tech ont chuté de 26% depuis 2000 pour tomber à 166 milliards de dollars en 2002, contre 223 milliards deux ans plus tôt. Dans le même temps, les importations ont reculé de 19%, ce qui a conduit à un déficit record
de la balance commerciale de 54 milliards en 2002. Sans surprise, l'appauvrissement des Etats-Unis en tant que pays producteur d'électronique a bénéficié en premier lieu à la Chine. Entre 2000 et
2002, les importations depuis la Chine ont bondi de 6,4 milliards de
dollars, soit un gain de 32% en deux ans. L'an passé, la Chine a ainsi
dépassé le Japon et le Mexique pour devenir le premier pays
fournisseur de produits high-tech des Etats-Unis. L'AeA met en parallèle la montée en puissance de la Chine et la chute de 10% de l'emploi dans l'industrie high-tech américaine entre 2000 et 2002...
Tout n'est pourtant pas si noir : aux marchandises, l'AeA oppose les
services high-tech. Sans préciser le contour de ces services (services
informatiques, prestations de sous-traitance ?), l'étude indique que
les services high-tech vendus par des entreprises américaines au
travers de leurs filiales étrangères ont représenté 95 milliards de
dollars en 2000, dégageant ainsi un surplus commercial de 58 milliards
pour les Etats-Unis. Sans compter les 17 milliards de dollars émanant
